  「焼亡の舞]

Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to Yugawara.
We will welcome you to come today, thank you.

(Yugawara is very famous for good hot springs, mountains, rivers and the sea.
You can enjoy fresh air and nature.)

Now, we would like to show you our traditional dance called   “Jomo no Mai”.
And we will use an archaic instrument “Heike Biwa”.
This dance is slow and not showy, but very interesting.

“Jomo no Mai” came from a story about a battle between Gennji-clan and Heike-clan,
   837 years ago.

Minamoto Yoritomo is Prince of Gennji, He raised an army in lzu where he had been
exiled for 20 years after his father killed by  Heike clan in Political fighting.

Doi Sanehira was the most powerful clan among Yoritomo troops.
And he ruled over his domain in this Yugawara and helped Yoritomo.

Yoritomo and Sanehira departed for the battle of lshibashiyama with 300 warriors.
But Heike clan had 3,000 or more warriors.
Yoritomo was defeated in this battle and he had to run and hide hi mself with only 6
other warriors, under commanded Doi Sanehira, in a deep forest around Hakone
      and Yugawara Mountains area.

But finally, Yoritomo and Sanehira found Sanehira's palace was  in a big fire
     from a distance.
Nevertheless Sanehira said that “this fire was an indication of bright future and
      big success.”
And then, he performed dance of “Jomo no Mai”
which made  Yoritomo encouraged and satisfied.

After Heike-clan gave up searcing for Yoritomo,
      and went back home,
Yoritomo and Sanehira, all 7 warriors get on a boat from
      Manazuru-Iwa-coast, to Boso-Ciba area.
For this reason, We called “七騎落ち Sitiki-Oti”.

lt was only 4 months later when Yoritomo went into Kamakura
supported by 30,000 warriors and established “The Kamakura Bakufu”,
which was the first Samurai govemment in the History of Ja pan.
New Japanese history began from here Yugawara!

Now, please enjoy our traditional dance “Jomo no Mai” and
       archaic instrument “Heike Biwa” performance!

      Thank you very much.
